Parent/Teacher Corner
This section is designed as a resource center for teachers, parents, and home schoolers. Use these questions to teach how a youngster can choose to do right in all circumstances. Having the children read these books will give them a better picture of real life and how to relate.
Discussion Questions On the CTR Club Books:
Challenge for Brittany
1-What is Brittany’s challenge? Have you ever been asked to do something you didn't want to do or thought was too hard? What did you do about it?
2-How many tries did it take Brittany to befriend Parker before she was successful? Why didn't it work the first time? Have you ever had to try something multiple times before you were successful? Tell me about it.
3-Why was Spencer teasing Brittany? What did Brittany do about it? Did it work? Have you ever been teased? What did you do about it? What are other things you can try?
4-From reading the book, do you understand more about autism? What did you learn?
5-What were Brittany's feelings about Parker at the beginning of the story? What were the feelings of her friends? Family? Other people in Primary? Have you met people who are different than you? What were your first feelings? Did those feelings change once you knew them better?
Brittany to the Rescue
1-Brittany really wants a multi-layered battery operated Monopoly game. Has there ever been a game or toy that you really wanted? What was it? What were you willing to do to get it?
2-Brittany learned some CPR in a class. What CPR technique did she do on Spencer? How does the technique work?
3-How do Brittany and Christine feel about work? What does Meagan feel about it? Why does Meagan feel differently? Do you like to work at a neighbor's house, but not at home? If so why?
4-At the end of the story Brittany gives up her multi-layered batter operated Monopoly game for something different. What did she buy instead? Why did she do it? Do you think you could sacrifice something you want to help others? What or how?
Meagan's Secret
1-Brittany is very focused on what she wants at the beginning of the story. What is she overlooking? How does reading The Diary of Anne Frank help her see other things around her? Has there ever been a time when you realized that a problem was happening with your friend and you didn't known what was going on?
2-What is Meagan's secret? Why is she so quiet about it? Are there people you know who might be in the same position as Meagan? What can you do to help them feel more at ease about their situation?
3-Brittany's relationship with Spencer in book 3 is different than in the first two books. How is it different? What caused the change? Have you everyone had a person who you didn't like, but after getting to know them better your feelings changed?
4-Brittany goes from not wanting to read about Anne Frank's life to not wanting to put the book down. Have you ever had a similar experience? What does Brittany learn about Anne that interests her? Have you read about other people's lives, and once you found out a couple of things you wanted to know more?
Skating with Spencer
1-Brittany starts doing things with Spencer that she doesn't really like doing. What are some of those things? Why does she do them? Is it bad or good to do things other people want you to do but you don't want to do?
2-Brittany makes a lot of mistakes in this book. What are some of the mistakes? Have you ever made similar mistakes? If you have, please tell us more about it.
3-When other kids are teasing Brittany and Spencer about liking each other, Spencer doesn't ever deny it. Why? Have you ever been teased about liking someone? Have you ever teased someone about them liking someone? Why? What is the best response to have when someone is teasing you? Will that response hurt another person? How can you react without hurting anyone?
4-Brittany gets called into her dad's office for a good talking to. Brittany knows she is going to get it, but her thoughts are on something else. What? When her dad is lecturing her, what does Brittany do to stop the lecture and make him be proud of her? Do you think you could accept responsibility for messing up as well as Brittany? Why and why not? Have you ever turned something bad into a good thing like Brittany did at the end of the book? How did it turn out?
