Favorite Children Books: Generating Creativity and Triggering Progress
Our favorite children books are chock full of fun, excitement and knowledge. Fairy tales, folk tales, myths, legends, and schoolyard rhymes are the usual stuff of these stories. Children can engage themselves in these books during leisure time. An adult too can extract his/her share of fun and pleasure from children books. Unfortunately, however, today's generation is so completely absorbed by video games, computer-generated animation and TV that children have very little interest in reading. This is not a good thing.
Trigger Creativity and Imagination
Our favorite children books generate creativity and thereby the individual and public progress. Also, our kids' interests are directed toward more important things like art, dancing, drama, music etc. These can be expensive to access, but books are relatively inexpensive and easily accessable. Plus, books provide real entertainment and can divert children from violence and misdeeds.
Many of our favorite children books deal with animals. These wonderful stories easily catch young children's interest and excite them about reading. However, if that does not happen, parents need to play a more decisive role in arousing interest for books in their children.
Besides comic books, books dealing with philosophy, sociology, anthropology, psychology, politics, and world religions can also attract their attention. The idea of "fun" reading may differ from child to child: Some love Hegel; some love Nancy Drew Mysteries.

Cultivate the Habit of Reading Good Books
You can celebrate Family Literacy Day and share the joy of reading your favorite children books with your children. The idea behind Family Literacy Day (on January 27) is that it is a national initiative to promote the importance of reading and learning as a family.
This is the perfect time to reveal your favorite childhood books to your own children. Books are very good company. For example, "Alligator Pie" is the favorite childhood book of vocalist Jim Creeggan. What was your favorite? Pass it on to your child.
Creeggan thinks that the next best thing to reading a book is sharing a book with a loved one or friend. Do you agree? Canadian Olympic skating champion Catriona LeMay Doan remembers that parents taught him from an early age how wonderful reading is.
Re-reading your favorite children books further develops your mind and imagination. Then, passing along the magic of reading and the world it opens up is something everybody can delight in, whatever his/her day job might be. Book-reading celebrities include musical artists, athletes, dancers, comedians, actors, TV personalities, journalists, broadcasters and the like. Reading is paramount to a person's development.
In countries like the US and Canada, there is a national committment to promoting adult and family literacy, both by the public and private sectors.
Books depicting multicultural values are especially worth reading. But, unfortunately, there is not a sufficient number of kids books depicting multiculturalism. Hopefully, more writers will try their hands at writing books for kids, and while doing so they will keep in mind the tastes of the young. Otherwise, their books will not be read.
